Therapy Dogs on Monday’s CO Morning Show
Man’s best friend is good for more than a welcoming lick and a walking partner. On Monday morning’s CO Show, contributor Marcy McCann speaks to Joanne Carver about her dog Adriane. The two work together for the Winchester Medical Center as volunteers, helping with patient therapy at Winchester Medical Center and Winchester Rehabilitation Center. Marcy and Joanne,
I know from personal experience the benefit of therapy dogs, especially for those with Alzheimer’s.
My mother battled Alzheimer’s for over 13 years and during the last few years was separated from her dogs when it was necessary for her to live in a nursing home. From time to time the owner’s dog would visit and my mother would light up when she saw the dog. She spent hours fussing over, petting and grooming the dog just like she used to do with her dogs.
Perhaps this interview will encourage others to volunteer with their dogs at our local nursing homes.
