With the recent spate of bickering in Washington, we are taking a stand! Time to celebrate the season of ‘good will towards men’ and ‘peace on earth.’

We’re dreaming of a white Christmas here at the Talk of the Valley. So much that we are in the Christmas spirit every day for the rest of the year on our sister station WAMM 1230 AM. Now every day 6a-6p, you can hear all the great Christmas tunes over the years on 1230 AM, with the Talk of the Valley at night. So, make yourself an egg nog, sit back and relax to all your Christmas favorites on WAMM 1230 all season long.

Perspective on Redskins

There’s been a lot of grandstanding over the issue of whether the Redskins are demeaning and offending Native Americans. Bob Costas says because the skin color is in the name it is inherently offensive. Are you offended when you are identified by your skin color? If you are profiled or discriminated against due to the color of your skin, that’s clearly wrong. But, a distinctive characteristic is not necessarily racist in all references. It is believed the term “redskin” first referred to Indians who decorated and covered their skin with bright red ochre. Context is always important.

Redskins Head Coach Joe Gibbs resigns in Virginiabob_costas_0

Yesterday, we got a copy of a letter from Dan Snyder supporting the name. He thinks the Redskins celebrate native heritage. Did you know Native Americans were consulted when designing the current logo on the Redskins’ helmets? Or the fact that only 11% of a recent survey thought a change in name is in order?
