Perspective on Redskins
There’s been a lot of grandstanding over the issue of whether the Redskins are demeaning and offending Native Americans. Bob Costas
says because the skin color is in the name it is inherently offensive. Are you offended when you are identified by your skin color? If you are profiled or discriminated against due to the color of your skin, that’s clearly wrong. But, a distinctive characteristic is not necessarily racist in all references. It is believed the term “redskin” first referred to Indians who decorated and covered their skin with bright red ochre
. Context is always important.
Yesterday, we got a copy of a letter from Dan Snyder supporting the name. He thinks the Redskins celebrate native heritage. Did you know Native Americans were consulted when designing the current logo on the Redskins’ helmets? Or the fact that only 11% of a recent survey thought a change in name is in order?

Lost Cat in Edinburg
We took a call today from a kind woman in Edinburg who is concerned for her lost cat. The feline is about 7 months old, has tiger stripe coloring, with a white nose, belly and feet. The cat was lost around Lawrenceville Road in Edinburg. If you have any information about the whereabouts of this cat, please contact Dorothy at 540.984.8639.

Page County at Central Postponed
Due to postponement, there will be no broadcast tonight of the scheduled girls basketball game between Page County and Central.
Luray at Stonewall postponed to Sat night
Tonight’s scheduled girls basketball broadcast on WSVG has been moved to Saturday night at 7:30pm. In it’s place, WSVG is airing Virginia Cavaliers mens basketball vs. Oregon.
